Ancient travellers had to go to Egypt to see the first wonder of the world, the pyramids. But there was also a seventh wonder of the world in the land situated on the Nile, the history of which Alexander the Great began to write. The greatest warlord of all time founded many cities during his campaigns. All were named after him, but the most famous, Alexandria, was built on the Egyptian Mediterranean coast. Between the mainland and an island called Faros, which protrudes from the sea, a naturally sheltered harbour was created that had the potential to become the most important city of antiquity. After Alexander's death, Egypt was taken over by his general, Ptolemy I, who began to make this vision a reality. The founder of the last pharaonic dynasty built a series of breathtaking structures - such as the Museion, the first museum in history to be a centre for scientific research, and the Library of Alexandria, with the richest collection of books in the world. His reign also saw the construction of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, which became a wonder of the world. The multi-storey tower rose to a height of 140 metres and its signal fire could be seen from a distance of 57 kilometres. The lighthouse helped the sailors to find their way to port for a thousand years, but it was slowly succumbing to the ravages of time. It has been damaged by Roman conquistadors and numerous earthquakes. The island merged with the mainland, the Ptolemaic harbour turned into a sandpit, and the world's largest lighthouse finally disappeared without a trace…

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS., presents a supposed image of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, supplemented with the English inscription THE LIGHTHOUSE OF ALEXANDRIA. The obverse side, which is common to the entire cycle, then presents all seven wonders of the world - the Egyptian pyramids, the hanging gardens of Semiramis, the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, the statue of Zeus in Olympia, the mausoleum in Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes andThe Lighthouse of Alexandria. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign license of the island of Niue, they also bear its national emblem, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023 on the obverse side.

Ten identical coins are sealed in special packaging. This is perforated so that it can be conveniently divided into ten parts if necessary.
Note: The packaging is covered with foil to prevent damage during transport.
