Bridges as a symbol of unification

In 2011 the Czech National Bank started issuing a series of gold commemorative coins with a nominal value of CZK 5,000 dedicated to bridges of the Czech Republic. The design for the coin was selected in a country-wide anonymous competition. The winning design created by Mgr. Art. Miroslav Hric, Art. D. depicts exceptionally well the inside of the bridge, and both sides of the coin are in perfect harmony.
All coins in the series “Bridges of the Czech Republic“ are made of 999.9 gold, each of them weighs 15.55 g and measures 28 mm in diameter. The coins are minted either in standard or in proof quality.
The footbridge situated in the outskirts of the Lenora village in the Šumava mountains was built in 1870. It was named after Eleonora – wife of the owner of local estate Johann Adolf II of Schwarzenberg. The footbridge served for retention, counting and release of timber floated from the Boubín woods down the Vltava River to nearby paper mills. The wooden structure is 25 metres long and 1.8 metre wide, while the inside height reaches up to three meters. The bridge deck is placed on three stone pillars about six metres above the surface of the Teplá Vltava river. The structure is covered by hip roof. The bridge is a registered national landmark and attracts many tourists. It help preserve the memory of the history of timber floating on the Vltava river.
On the obverse side of the coin we can see the view inside of the bridge complemented with three heraldic animals above and text in circumscription “MOSTY ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA 5000 Kč“ (BRIDGES OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC 5,000 CZK). The reverse side features the panoramic view of the bridge and legend in the upper part of the coin reads: “2013 DŘEVĚNÝ MOST V LENOŘE“.
A red colour catalogue card is supplied with each coin containing description of the coin and its three-dimensional depiction.
Limited edition 11.300 pcs.
