Gold 5000-crown coin Baroque bridge in Náměšť nad Oslavou standard

In 2011, the Czech National Bank began issuing  a series of gold commemorative coins with a nominal value of CZK 5000 called Bridges of the Czech Republic. The first coin depicted the Gothic bridge in the town of Písek, the second the Renaissance bridge in Stříbro, and the third features the Baroque bridge in Náměšť nad Oslavou.

Following after the Charles bridge in Prague,  the Baroque bridge in Náměšť nad Oslavou is the second largest bridge in the Czech Republic, splendidly decorated with statues of 20 saints.

Count Václav Adrian of Enckenvoirt, owner of the Náměšť  estate had the bridge built in 1737 and his name is commemorated on a plate placed on the bridge. His heirs, Marie Františka and Hanuš Leopold of Kufštejn, orthodox Catholics had the bridge decorated with twenty statues of saints. The majority of statues in the set was authored by Josef Winterhalter (8 statues and 4 designs), 8 statues were created by other Moravian sculptors. The statues were most likely completed in 1744, as they were consacrated in August of this year.

As in previous two cases, the design of the coin was selected in a country-wide anonymous competition. The winner – creative artist  Martin Dašek – won thanks to the tasteful depiction of the bridge and well balanced composition of both sides of the coin.

All coins in the series “Bridges of the Czech Republic” are made of 999.9 gold, each of them weighs 15.55 g and measures 28 mm in diameter. The coins are minted either in standard quality where the entire coin surface is uniformly polished, or in proof quality, i.e. with highly polished mint field and matted relief.

The obverse side of the coin features the bridge viewed from a distance, and three heraldic animals as well as inscription in lines ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA – MOSTY and denomination 5000 Czech crowns.

The reverse side shows a detailed view of the bridge with limestone statues and the text in lines BAROKNÍ MOST  V NÁMĚŠTI NAD OSLAVOU – 2012 (Baroque bridge in Náměšť nad Oslavou – 2012).

A red colour catalogue card is supplied with each coin containing description of the coin and its three-dimensional depiction.
