Mythical Creatures

Harpy appears on the Czech Mint's fourth gold coin from the Mythical Creatures collection cycle.

The Greek poet Hésiodos, famous as a chronicler of the stories of ancient mythology, speaks of three
harpies - half women, half birds of prey. They were Alléktó (Gale), Ókypeté and Kelainó (Dizzying), to which Hésiod's more famous contemporary Homer added Podarga. Together they were the personification of wind and storm. Later, harpies became ubiquitous evil beings - demons who persecute good people and it is not without interest that today they do not live only in legends. When the first Spanish conquerors arrived in the Amazon, they saw huge birds with human-like heads in the treetops. These were eagles whose claws are larger than bear's and whose wings have a span of over two meters. No wonder they were called harpy.

According to
Asamat Baltaev, DiS., the mythical harpy is beautiful, yet wild and dangerous. On the reverse side of the coin, the whole body is covered with feathers, while the only human part is a face, and it is accompanied by an English inscription HARPY. It is not without interest that the coin does not have a classic coin frame, however, the relief is surrounded by decorative ornaments that permeate the entire collecting cycle. As the coins of the Czech Mint are published with the foreign license of the island of Niue, their the obverse side bears the profile and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2020.

You can save the complete collection of twelve mythological coins in a spectacular
collector's album, which you will also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
