Product description

The fourth gold coin of the Czech Mint, weighing one half a gram, is traditionally stored in a replica of a lithographic postcard. The issue that delights numismatics and philocartists was dedicated to the famous Charles Bridge.

The historical postcard, which served as a pattern of coins packaging, was published in 1897 by the Winkler and Voigt publishing houses in Leipzig. It is dominated by the multi-look view of the Charles Bridge and the monuments associated with it, which means the Little Side in the lower castle of Prague Castle, Old Town and Little Side Bridge Tower and the oldest statue of St. John of Nepomuk. The composition of the postcard is supplemented by the German inscriptions (Karlsbrücke u. Kleinseite, Kleinseitner Brückenthürme, Der altstädter Brückenthurm, St. Johannesstatue and Karlsbrücke), the German writing Gruss aus Prag (Greetings from Prague) and the floral decor. The particular example of the postcard, which comes from the collection of Mr. Pavel Vursta, was sent on 13, October, 1898 and stamped the following day in Hořice. A preserved address side with a stamped value of two kreuzers was a curiosity, even though the crown currency had come into force.

A young talented medal maker Ludmila Kodytkova became the author of the relief of the gold mini coin. The reverse side paid attention to the Charles Bridge with its Gothic Old Town Tower and the bilingual inscription PRAHA - PRAGUE. The obverse side belongs to the attributes of the island of Niue, an issuer that licenses the Czech Mint to coin its own commemorative coins. They are the name and portrait of the Emperor Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2017 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD).

The original issue represents an available collector's piece but also a valuable gift or regional attention.
