Product description

A gold coin for good luck was given to newborn infants in their cradle by our ancestors. It was not just any coin, but the famed ducat. The Czech Mint follows this beautiful custom with a mintage of the Ducate for the birth of a child.

The mintages of ducats have a long tradition in the Czech Republic. First in the country to mint the gold coins (at that time called florins) was John of Luxembourg, which was followed by the Father of the Nation, Charles IV. His Czech ducats have been in circulation for several centuries. In the modern age they were followed by the Czechoslovak and St. Wenceslaus ducats. For its beauty and value above all, the ducats became a proven gift, that the baby received, in order to not suffer a poverty in life. After World War II the ducats were practically forgotten, but the Czech Mint has decided to revive this tradition with a mintage of their own gold ducats destined directly for the birth of a child. The beauty and value of gold remained and were joined by another inestimable value in the form of an engraved personal dedication.

The visual image of the ducat on the obverse side was proposed by the talented medaillist Lenka Nebeská, DiS. She has chosen a motif of a sleeping baby swaddled in a sling. It is surrounded by bird feathers symbolizing the stork or a crow, who according to the legend brings the child to the new parents. The composition also includes the text DUKÁT K NAROZENÍ DÍTĚTE 2017 /Ducat for the birth of a child 2017/. The reverse side is looped with a ribbon in the shape of a heart, which defines a space for the engraving of text. This may take the form of a personal message, names, dates of birth, … - imagination has no limits. The only limit is the extent of the text: 3 lines of 10 characters, including spaces.

This issue is stored in an elegant gift package, which as well as the ducat, can be customized. It contains a space for the information about the baby and dedication and for the insertion of photographs.
