200th anniversary of birth of famous Italian composer

Gold half-ounce coin marking the 200th anniversary of birth of Giuseppe Verdi designed by academic sculptor Vladimír Oppl.
Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901) was an Italian Romantic composer primarily known for his operas. He is considered as one of the most influential composers of the nineteenth century and his operas are frequently performed in all major opera houses throughout the world. He could develop his talent thanks to his patron Antonio Barezzi, who had long supported his musical ambitions. Verdi was given his first lessons in composition by F. Provesi, conductor of Societa filarmonica, who also helped him perfect his play of music instruments. He successfully passed tests to study at the Milan Conservatory but was not accepted because of his age. He nevertheless stayed in Milan and became a student of V. Lavigny – cembalist in the opera house Teatro alla Scala. This had a great impact on his works – he primarily composed music for theatre. His private life was not too happy, he found solace in work. Verdi’s most famous operas include Nabucco, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Don Carlos, Aida, Othello, Falstaff... .
The obverse side of the coin features three Muses each playing a musical instrument. Particulars of the coin: Niue Island, 2013, portrait of Queen Elizabeth and denomination 10 NZD, are placed at the rim. The reverse side shows Giuseppe Verdi’s portrait and the dates of his birth and death.
