Product description

The free cycle of the Czech Mint coins minted from a troy ounce of pure gold was dedicated to women. And not any - but fatale. The coin of our fellow countrywoman Ema Destinn whose honey voice took the whole planet at the turn of the 19th and 20th century was coined after Helen of Troy and empress Elizabeth "Sissi" Bavarian´s coins.

Initially, the "divine Ema" did not succeed at home, and she was even thrown out of the National Theater. But that was not a bad thing because she set off on a world that could appreciate her. She fascinated Berlin, London, Vienna, New York and finally Prague. She stared in opera of Wagner, Smetana, Verdi, Strauss, or Puccini, and in the roles of fateful women who were Salome, Aida, or Carmen. Men were courted from all corners of the planet - fans and colleagues - and even one of the best tenors of all time, Enrico Caruso, belonged among her admirers. Happiness in love, however, did not happen. The unconventional celebrity was actively engaged in spiritism, stayed in a morbidly furnished mansion, and as one of the first known women she had been tattooed when the image of the snake on her leg pointed to her intimate gigs. She was proud, stubborn and Austrian authorities arrested her for suspicion of participation in the Czechoslovak resistance during the First World War. Ema Destinn is considered one of the most important Czechs of history, as evidenced by her portrait for 2000 CZK banknote.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of expert medal maker Vojtech Dostal, DiS., was completely devoted to the singer's face with a distinctive hairstyle. Her elegance is underlined by a decent necklace and the composition of the reverse side is completed by the inscription of EMA DESTINN. The obverse side of the coin belongs to the attributes of the island of Niue, which is the provider of a foreign license to issue coins of the Czech Mint. These are a nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and the profile of Queen Elizabeth II. and the year of the issue 2018.

Which fatal woman can you look forward to in the future? We can reveal that the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, who was admired by the most powerful men of the ancient world, will appeared in a troy ounce of gold.
