The sixth mintage, by which has the Czech Mint livened up the extraordinarily popular collectible series Czechoslovak football legends, presents a sporty person, whom everyone knows, even those, who stayed completely untouched by the love for a football. Antonín Panenka. A great guy. Master. Phenomenon. The fact that gold suits him, was proved forty years ago in the former Yugoslavia. And certainly suits him even now - in the form of the original gold quarter-ounce Smart coin 10 NZD.
An excellent former footballer of Czechoslovakia played for the national team since 1973, within nine years, in sixty matches, in which he scored 17 goals. The most important one, the one which the whole world is still talking about, was scored in 1976 during a penalty shootout in the final of the European Championships in Belgrade, when the national team won the very first and so far only continental title. His so-called "Vršovický dloubák" entered the history of sports - like himself - and became the inspiration for the next generation of players.
Antonín Panenka lived to see a dozens of recognition, such as Dr. Václav Jíra award for the contribution the national football and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame of Czech football. His merits were also appreciated by the former President of Czech Republic Václav Klaus, who awarded him the State commendation - the Medal of Merit - first grade.
