Product description

At the European Championships in England in 1996 the Czech team won the Vice-Championship title. A big role was played by the phenomenal talent of football midfielder Karel Poborský, to whom, after 20 years, the Czech Mint pays tribute with the gold Smart coin of the series Czechoslovak football legend.

Long before the whole football world became interested in the hairy guy from Třeboň, Karel Poborský pushed himself hard. Since his childhood, he played with older boys, who were a head taller and he had to rely on his speed and guile in the form of unpredictable loopholes, footers and many other tricks. He loved the football tricks so much, that he was fired from the youth team - according to the coach, he pett the the ball too much.

He headed for the A-team, where he was to be taught a lesson, but in the very first championship match he scored a goal - by back heel. But his most famous trick became a cheeky lob over the goalkeeper in the quarterfinals of the continental championship in 1996, which electrified the whole world and opened the door to the world's footballing elite for Poborský. He then capitalized his talent in a prestigious foreign clubs such as Manchester United, Benfica and Lazio Roma.

For Karel Poborský a lush mane of flowing hair was characteristic, and it also features on the reverse of the commemorative coin from the workshop of a young medalist Asamat Baltaev, DiS. A faithful portrait is accompanied with footballer’s signature and lyrics in the description, which says KAREL POBORSKÝ, VICEMISTR EVROPY, ANGLIE, 1996. The obverse side of the coin is the work of MgA. Martin Dašek and belongs to the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the license for issuing the Smart coins for the Czech Mint - the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II., the year of the emissions of the coin 2016, and its nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD).

The final piece of the puzzle is a football-shaped heart - the logo of The Football Foundation of the Internationals, which allows the Czech Mint the issuance of this collectibles series. Proceeds from the sale of coins, in return, supports its charitable projects.

In the menu of the Czech Mint, besides the commemorative coins, can be found a unique footballing etui, which accommodates all 11 legendary footballers.
