Product description

The Paralympic Games are held every four years, always after the Olympics. It was no different in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, where the phenomenal Czech swimmer Arnošt Petráček brought home our only gold. As a thanks to him, the Czech Mint has dedicated a gold commemorative coin.

Arnošt was born on 25. 7. 1991, with a malformation of the upper and lower limbs - in terms of his lower limbs he has a permanent dislocation of the knee and his upper limbs are missing the arm bones. He laid his foundations in the swimming pool, from where his parents could not get him out at any price. At the age of 15, he nominated himself to the junior team and the world's largest sporting event was not long in coming. After Beijing and London, where he narrowly missed the podium, it was his third Paralympics in Rio. He dominated the 50m backstroke and is already thinking of defending his triumph in 2020 in Tokyo.

The academic sculptor Jiří Dostál, who is the author of the traditional mintages with an Olympic themes, dedicated the reverse side of the coin to a depictions of the swimmer with glasses in Paralympic swimming pool in the heat of sports fight. The scene is followed by an inscriptions ARNOŠT PETRÁČEK, PLAVÁNÍ /swimming/, ZLATÁ MEDAILE /Gold medal/  and RIO DE JANEIRO 2016. The obverse side belongs to Fiji archipelago, which provides a license to mint a coins with motifs of a living notable individuals for the Czech Mint. It bears the exotic Coat of arms of the Pacific state, the year of issue 2016 and the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (FJD).

Pay a tribute to the undefeatable human determination along with the Czech Mint!
