Product description

The Czech Mint has closed the collector´s gold coins miniseries called Czech tennis legends. The fifth and final mintage was dedicated to the double Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitová.

"As a little girl I played tennis just for fun. Neither me nor my dad thought I would be able to play grandslam. He said either she will or not," recalls Petra Kvitová, who was trained by her father and started playing tennis when she was just four years old. She became a world-class professional when she was sixteen and soon became one of the top tennis players. The entire sporting world has been excited by her aggressive, offensive and risky concept of play with very good service. She is known for her quick strokes and left-handed services that have ensured her first place at Wimbledon singles in 2011 and 2014. She became the first tennis player born in the 1990s to win the Big Four Tournament at that time. But that's not all. Petra Kvitová's achievements in singles include, among other things, seven ITF titles, twenty-two WTA titles, or a bronze medal from the Olympic Games in Rio. And her career has not finished yet ...

The academic sculptor Jiří Dostál, who has extensive experience with sporting themes, dedicated the reverse side of the coin to Petra Kvitová's winning moment, when she holds the Wimbledon trophy - the Venus Rosewater Dish. The inscription bears the English text "CZECH TENNIS LEGEND PETRA KVITOVA" and a selection of her greatest tennis achievements. Sport coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a license of a foreign issuer, which is the state of Samoa. Their obverse side therefore bears its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the name and the profile of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (WST) and the year of the issue 2018. The composition is complemented by the inscription "WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONS".

The coin, which comes in a cost of only 200 pieces, is complemented by a Czech-English certificate of authenticity that describes Petra Kvitová's winning career from the perspective of her tennis colleague Jan Kodeš. Remember that you can store the set of five commemorative coins in a wooden collector's etui.
