In 2016 the general public was given a unique opportunity to influence, which star of the silver screen will appear on the commemorative gold medals of the Czech Mint. It was not a big surprise, when the beloved entertainer Vladimír Menšík has won.

Despite the fact, that the legendary actor died aged just 58 years (* October 9, 1929, † May 29, 1988), he managed to build a legacy, which many artists can only dream about. Since the late 50s he played over 150 unforgettable film and television roles, and his narrative mastery have won the hearts of the entire nation. He loved the audience and the audience loved him. And thanks to the tears of laughter and emotion, which he left behind, the audience will love him forever. In the poll, which was attended by a total of 1752 customers of the Czech Mint and spectators of the Febiofest film festival, 804 supporters voted for him, a full 46% of survey participants. (He competed with such stars as Oldřich Nový, Miloš Kopecký, Jaroslav Marvan and Adina Mandlová…)

As with the previous issues from the cycle Stars of the Silver Screen, the artistic form of the film mintage was processed by the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek. Helping him with a selection of motifs was the daughter of Vladimír Menšík Martina. The obverse side belongs to the unmistakable face of great comic and revers is a real rarity - it carries a self-portrait from a profile, which Vladimír Menšík painted personally and is accompanied by his signature.

Each gold medal is placed in an elegant packaging, which is dedicated to the most famous cross-section of film and TV roles of Vladimír Menšík.
