Mickey Mouse Season´s Fantasia 1oz Silver Coin
Another silver coin from the collector's series, which represents milestones in the career of animated Mickey Mouse, was dedicated to his most famous musical-film adventure called Fantasy.
Disney's colour feature film from 1940 was a courageous experiment linking animated stories with classical music and featured segments. It is based on the short film "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". It originally had to serve as a separate, several-minute grotesque, which would make Mickey Mouse go back to the highlight. In fact, his popularity was steadily declining. However, the cost of producing the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" has increased so much that they could not even be returned. Walt Disney has therefore decided to create a full-featured story film consisting of eight parts. His perfect animation was accompanied by works of musical giants (among them Bach, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven), inspired by stories from ancient Greek myths and legends of Goethe's poems, conducted by renowned Leopold Stokowski and Philadelphian Philharmonic Orchestra. This created a work that could appeal the masses desiring entertainment as well as expert criticism. Unfortunately, the financial gain did not come as the World War II cut off America from foreign markets. However, Fantasy found its audience, gained cult status, and is considered one of the best animated films of all time.
The reverse side of the coin carries the scene from the most famous chapter of the film, from the original Sorcerer's Apprentice. Mickey, dressed in a wizard's garment and a pointed cap, enlivened with the magic broom that does homework for him and carries buckets of water. The figure of the mouse is rendered in true colors thanks to the coloring technology, the rest of the coin is embossed. The obverse side of the mintage was then devoted to the attributes of its publisher Niue Island, which means the profile and name of Emperor Elizabeth II, the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2017. The New Zealand Mint team is the author of the licensed art coin design.
An integral part of the issue is a luxury wooden box with an illustrated packaging, a certificate and a mechanism to expose the coin tastefully.
