Mickey Through the Ages - Plane Crazy 1 oz Silver Coin
Do you know, when the Mickey Mouse was born? In 1928 and was first introduced to viewers in black and white slapstick comedy called the Plane Crazy. The beginning of his stellar career resembles a silver coin of the Disney collectibles series.
Six-minute silent slapstick is about an attempt to emulate the success of Charles Lindbergh, who as the first man crossed the Atlantic the previous year. Although aviation, at that time, was very popular among the people, the authors Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks could not get a distributor for their creation. Later that year, the pair came up with a short sound film the Steamboat Willie - a major role again went to the cartoon Mickey and spectators were thrilled. For the huge response, the authors decided to revamp their original film and introduced it again, this time with sound. Theyfinally lived to see a deserved success and their groundbreaking achievement, in which the not only the mischievous mouse was first introduced, but also his girlfriend Minnie, now belongs to the golden fund of animated cinema.
The reverse side of the coin depicts Mickey Mouse in the cockpit of self-built aircraft. He is holding a horseshoe for good luck, which he got of his girlfriend Minnie before the start. The character is colored in black and white in the style of slapstick. The obverse side of the mintage belongs to the attributes of the issuer, which is the Pacific island of Niue - the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II., the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2016.
This licensed coin was designed by the creative team of the New Zealand Mint.
Part of each silver mintage is an elegant wooden etui with a special mechanism allowing to expose the coin, a certificate of origin and a charming illustrated dustjacket.
