As is the sad fate of the magnificentart works, neither Mácha's poem May was at the time  understood by the readers. They reproached him a small patriotic contribution, and also the main character Vilém, a robber and parricide, which was not accepted by the society. The value of the poetic composition was recognized in the second half of the 19th century,by the generations Májovci, which was a notable literary group of Czech poets and novelists of the 19th century. Unfortunately, Karel Hynek Macha did not live to see it, as he died prematurely at the age of 25. The romantic story of an unhappy love of Vilém and deluded and seduced Jarmila, set in May's nature, through Mácha’s captivating language means has won and still wins the hearts of more and more new readers. Since its first edition, which was released in 600 copies, this Czech literary gem finally received about three hundred reeditions.

One-ducat of a pure gold Karel Hynek Mácha - Máj is designed for the mintage by Jaroslav Bejvl. An excellent medalist decorated the obeverse with a motive of a grieving robber Vilém in an environment of a picturesque natural scenery. Emotional scene completes a snippet from the book MY LONG WAY JOURNEY, MY FUTILE CALLING along with other inscriptions: K. H. MÁCHA, MÁJ and DUCAT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC. The reverse bears a tasteful collage of harps, books, sculpting tools and palettes, tools which inspired the gifted hands of Czechs to bring to the life many artistic treasures. Emissions of ducats are strictly limited to 100 pieces, so do not hesitate and indulge your collections with extremely valuable additions!
