Product description

In 2015 the world celebrates the 70th anniversary of the end of the most devastating military conflict in human history. The Czech Mint dedicates four gold coins commemorating four major triumphs of goodness in the last months of World War II to all the brave men and women who died in order to let us live.

The Liberation of Auschwitz

70 years passed since the liberation of Auschwitz and the Czech Mint pays tribute to all the heroes of the concentration camps – to those who survived and to those who did not return home. The coin is more and more current reminder of the call for peace, freedom and protection of human rights, but also warning against actions which we must not forget and that must never be repeated.

The Battle of Iwo Jima

70 years ago on this inconspicuous island tens of thousands of people lost their lives and one of the most memorable photographs of all time was born there. Picture of six US soldiers erecting the flag with stars and stripes immediately became a symbol of pride and courage. The Czech Mint decided to pay tribute to them with the gold coin.

The Capture of Berlin
The bloody campaign that began with despicable invasion of Poland and ended with the victory of good over evil - it happened just 70 years ago in the heart of the humiliated Third Reich. The motif for gold coin by the Czech Mint became an iconic image that captures one of the most famous scenes of the 20th century – the soldiers of the Red Army hoisting the flag on the roof of the Reichstag building.

May Uprising
Subjugated, but still proud nation, which for years endured the suffering of Nazi supremacy, was not about to let our country and its capital become the last bastion of the German resistance. To all local heroes of the May uprising, who 70 years ago went to the streets to build barricades and defend them with rifles in their hands; to them is dedicated the gold coin concluding the series by the Czech Mint.
