Product description

The Czech Mint decided to celebrate this year's 97th anniversary of the formation of Czechoslovakia, in a very original way. Along with the Slovak Mint Kremnica they had prepared a unique project - a set of two gold medals commemorating two great personalities who were at the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and contributed to the creation of the Czechoslovak state.

Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk was about 30 years older than Milan Rastislav Štefánik, nevertheless they respected each other. Their relationship was firstly relationship of  respected teacher and his devoted disciple, and then of collaborators and partners, older and younger friend. It was just Štefánik, who began naming Masaryk "Daddy" which later became an object of ridicule, although he began using the Slovak form “otecko”. Masaryk was the ideological leader of the Legion as a basis of the future Czechoslovak army, Štefánik then a military organizer – the Czechoslovak Republic became the result of ideological fusion of the professor of sociology and politician Masaryk and enthusiastic astronom and pilot Štefánik. Posthumous fates of the founders of modern statehood of Czechs and Slovaks are similar: they became esteemed and hated, easily and willingly abused symbols.

Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk decorates the medal from the Czech Mint. Portrait of the first president, who was born 165 years ago, was prepared for the obverse side by the artist Martin Dašek. He completed it with state symbols, inscription TOMÁŠ GARRIQUE MASARYK and the years 1850-1937-2015. The author decorated it with the distinctive depiction of collapse of the monarchy and the inscription SEN NÁRODŮ SE STAL SKUTEČNOSTÍ (“DREAM OF THE NATIONS BECAME REALITY”).

Motiv of the medal from the Mint Kremnica is a person Milan Rastislav Štefánik, whose portrait from the medallist Štefan Novotný`s workshop adorns the obverse side, along with current state symbols and inscriptions MILAN RASTISLAV ŠTEFÁNIK and the years 1880-1919-2015. The  reverse side of the medal is, as well the obverse side of the Czech medal, dedicated to the collapse of the monarchy and the establishment of a new, independent state of the Slavs.

Both numismatic treasures are stored in a luxury wooden etui decorated with thematic engraving. Exclusive edition reminds us of a crucial milestone in the history of Czechs and Slovaks, and it will delight all collectors of historical treasures for which the purchase of this set of two gold medals is an exceptional investment opportunity!
