Product description

The fourth silver colored coin of 2016 in a series Endangered nature of the Czech Mint belongs to the extraordinary representative of our critically endangered flora - a water plant named Nymphaea alba, which is better known as the Water lily.

A lovely plant, which since ancient times has been a symbol of life and resurrection, owes its Latin name to the nymph, which according to legend, fell in love with the ancient hero Hercules. However, he did not return her feelings and the fairy died of the unrequited love. After death, she then transformed into a beautiful flower.

The petioles and stalks of water lily have a cavities filled with air in themselves, thanks to which they float on the surface. The water lily occurs naturally in stagnant and the slow flowing waters and as a decorative plant is artificially cultivated in parks and gardens. Wild growing water lilies, however, are critically endangered and protected by law. For their extinction we blame in particular the water pollution and changes in living conditions, to which these plants are very sensitive.

The reverse side of the silver Smart coin designed by MgA. Martina Dašek is a water lily in all its glory - thanks to the colorized finish even in vivid colors. The inscription gives the full Czech and Latin name of the plant and the whole composition is complemented with a small glass chaton in red color. The obverse side of the coin bears the attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue - portrait and the name of the Commonwealth monarch Elizabeth II., the year of issue 2016 and the nominal value of the coin 1 DOLLAR (NZD). These necessary elements are complimented by a decorative floral motif.

The series of Endangered nature will continue in 2017. All four issues of 2016 can be stored in a practical collector's box, which is situated in the menu of the Czech Mint.
