The third silver coin from the collector's cycle dedicated to prehistoric creatures presents a pterodactyl.

Pterodactyls belonged to a genus of Pterosauria, so they were not dinosaurs, but in fact, they were closely related to them. They were the first vertebrates in Earth's history to be able to fly actively thanks to their wings made of a leathery membrane that was stretched between the body and the lengthened fourth finger. Hence the name pterodactyl, which in Greek translation means "winged finger". Pterodactyls were rather small predators that fed mainly on fish and other small vertebrates. The wingspan was only one and half a meter. This does not seem small compared to today's birds, but such a lizard Quetzalcoatlus boasted a span that exceeded fifteen meters.

The reverse side of the coin is dominated by a pterodactyl in flight with an open beak full of sharp teeth. While the lizard is presented in vivid colors, the surrounding prehistoric relief is underlined by patina. The obverse side then bears the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2020 and the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD), which means the attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue. The coin was processed by the team of the New Zealand Mint.
