Product description
A one-kilogram silver coin of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 10,000 CZK which boasts a polished finish, is being released on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Establishment of the Great Prague, which will be celebrated in 2022.
The four separate cities of Prague - Old Town, New Town, Lesser Town and Hradčany - were united into one entity in 1784. The so-called Royal Capital of Prague was created then, and its suburbs and surrounding areas developed rapidly in the following century. Prague sought to annex these neighbouring municipalities but encountered resistance from the local authorities, who did not want to lose their independence. Tax differences and national disputes between Czechs and Germans also posed problems. Change came only after the fall of the monarchy, when Prague, freed from the domination of Vienna, set out to become a worthy world city. Almost 37 villages and settlements for example, Břevnov, Dejvice, Karlín, Smíchov, Královské Vinohrady and Žižkov were annexed to the capital in 1922 and the so-called Great Prague was created. The area of the city grew overnight from the original 20 to 172 km2. The population tripled to 676,000, but the population density dropped from 12,000 to 3,900 inhabitants per km2. The new Great Prague was truly great...
The design crteated by the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů won the art competition of the Czech National Bank. The expert committee appreciated especially the very detailed representation of the city emblems that surround the map of Prague on the reverse side and the beautiful design of the historical emblem of the capital city that dominates the obverse side of the coin.
The exclusive producer of the Czech coins is the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
