Product description

The Czechoslovak section of the International Red Cross was found on February 6, 1919. The Czech National Bank issued a silver commemorative coin in top proof quality with a nominal value of 200 CZK about 100 years later.

Despite the conviction the cross on the charity emblem does not symbolize the Christian ideology. It refers to the nationality of founder Henri Dunant. The Swiss businessman witnessed a battle at the Italian town of Solferina in 1859. The lack of medical care that had been provided to the suffering soldiers impressed him so much that it changed his life and life of milion people across the planet. The inhabitants of the Czech lands sympathized with the humane idea that the Red Cross was promoting. The Patriotic Assistance Society of the Czech Kingdom became a part of the Austro-Hungarian society of the Red Cross in 1868. It had a lot of work especially during the First World War. The Czechoslovak Republic was found after the end of the conflict. Moreover, the Czechoslovak Red Cross was established at that time. President Masaryk approved its founding and gave all rights to his daughter. "Let's do something good every day, let's forget about yourself and take a moment to think about the others so we could find our own personality" said PhDr Alice Masarykova, who had served as the first chairman of the Czechoslovak Red Cross for two decades.

Asamat Baltaev DiS.
won the first prize for his proposal in the Czech National Bank's art competition and especially "for the compositionally imaginative rendering of the cross and the harmony of both sides". On the obverse side there is a cross in the center with stylized heraldic animals. The reverse side composition corresponds to the obverse side. The area of the cross is filled with seven basic, internationally valid principles of the Red Cross: HUMANITY, IMPARTIALITY, NEUTRALITY, INDEPENDENCE, VOLUNTARITY, UNITY, and REPUTATION. In the middle of the reverse side, there is a cross that is covered with the emblem of the Czechoslovak Red Cross.
