Product description

The current five-year cycle of silver coins of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 500 CZK in quality standard commemorates the crucial moments associated with the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic. It marks the 100th anniversary of the Washington Declaration in 2018.

The First World War was inexorably coming to an end in October 1918 and the representatives of the collapsing central powers sought a way out of a hopeless situation. The Austro-Hungarian emperor Charles I, who, unlike his authoritarian auspicious Franz Joseph I, was enlightened at all costs to preserve the integrity of the Habsburg monarchy and therefore offered his nations autonomy within the federation. Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, Edvard Benes and Milan Rastislav Stefanik - men at the head of the Czechoslovak provisional government in exile did not mean to be content with anything less than absolute and unconditional freedom. The reasons for dissatisfaction, the rights and demands of Czechs and Slovaks were written in a document that came into history as the "Washington Declaration". This statement was handed over to President Woodrow Wilson in the US capital, who wished to speak with strong voice from the national movements with the disintegrating of Austria- Hungary. And he also got it. The monarchy could not react otherwise than by the recognition of Czechoslovak freedom ...

The author of this czech commemorative coin is a medal maker MgA Jakub Orava. The obverse side belongs to the small state emblem of Czechoslovakia and the inscription "HELLO, HELLO, HELLO TO OUR INDEPENDENCE - CZECHOSLOVAKS!" The reverse side then presents a document with part of the Washington Declaration text on the background of the Washington Capitol Building. The composition is complemented by the names of the founders of the Republic of Masaryk, Stefanik and Benes together with the Czechoslovak flag, in which the winning letter V is placed.

All czech coins are coined in the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
