Product description

The Czech National Bank annually emits an exceptional silver commemorative coins, through which not only represents the exquisite work of the Czech artists, but also recalls the key milestones, personalities and monuments connected with our state. Their premium design and the great themes of these are the basic pillars of any sophisticated collection. In 2016, is a silver coin 500 CZK in a stunning quality mintage proof, given to the Czechoslovak National Council, whose existence began just a hundred years ago.

The Czechoslovak National Council (fr. Conseil National Tchécoslovaque) originated from the so-called foreign Czech Committee in Paris in 1916 as the central authority of the Czechoslovak foreign resistance during the 1st World War. The founding date was May 14, 1916. Its chairman was Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, then vice-chairmen Milan Rastislav Štefánik and Josef Dürich and the Secretary General Edvard Beneš. At the end of the war, from June to September 1918, was the Czechoslovak National Council gradually acknowledged by the governments of France, Great Britain, USA and Japan as the official representative of the future Czechoslovak state. On October 14th, 1918 it was transformed into the so-called interim Czechoslovak government in Paris and exactly a month later formally expired by the provision of the first government of the Czechoslovak Republic.

In the competition of the Czech National Bank gathered together a wide range of successful works of art and the committee examined the proposals for the czech money, along with a professional advisor, Doc. PhDr. Pavla Vošahlíková, DrSc., from the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences, assessed MgA. Josef Šafařík, Ph.D,. as the best model. He attracted them with a particular harmony of the obverse and the reverse sides and with an apposite expression of the imminent collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and at the same time the establishment of Czechoslovakia, to which he brilliantly used the state symbols. On the obverse we can find the pledge with a text FREE IS THE NATION, WHICH IS NOT SUBORDINATED TO THE POWER OF ANOTHER NATION. The reverse around the perimeter is decorated with an inscription CZECHOSLOVAK NATIONAL COUNCIL and the years 1916-2016. Another outstanding issue of the Czech National Bank foreshadows a great interest of numismatics, we recommend an early booking of our new rare collector's gain!
