Series: Smart coins Endangered Nature

In the collector series Endangered Nature we present on silver Smart coins plants and animals recorded on red lists of endangered species. We particularly focus on species that can also be encountered in the Czech Republic or, time to time, at our neighbours, like the trumpet gentian, i.e. Gentiana clusii.
Trumpet gentian is a perennial plant with a short straight stem. It grows on limestone rocks and on meadows in mountainous up to subalpine regions, flowering from April until August. The flowers are usually intense blue, trumpet-shaped.
In addition to the Slovak Carpathians, the plant can also be found in other mountain ranges in Central Europe. In Slovakia it is listed as one of endangered plant species and protected by law. Species similar to trumpet gentian occur in Czechia, such as for example Gentiana asclepiadea (in the Jizera Mountains or the Giant Mountains) and Gentiana pannonica (original habitating the Šumava mountain range).
The obverse side of the coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth, denomination of the coin 1 dollar, the year of issue 2013, the country Niue Island and the plant motif. Colour Gentiana clusii is depicted on the reverse side, in the upper part it is decorated with a colour glass bead.
