Product description

Gustav Fabergé is one of the most famous jewellers worldwide. His fascinating precise work with precious metals causes admiration and amazement until the present day. Czech Mint decided to pay tribute to him on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth by issuing a beautiful silver coin in proof quality. The design of the coin is the work of talented medal maker Asamat Baltaev. The obverse is decorated with a jewel in the shape of an Easter egg, in the centre with the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and denomination of the coin 2 NZD. The reverse features the portrait of Gustav Fabergé based on the painting by Russian painter A. I. Perevyško, his name, year of birth and year of issue. The shine of pure silver underlines high artistic value of the coin which asks to be added to your precious collections!

Gustav Fabergé was born in Pärn, Livonia (today Estonia) to a family of artists. He apprenticed at Ferdinand Spiegel in Petersburg and worked for Wilhelm Keibel. After he qualified as a master he opened a Fabergé workshop in Petersburg. In 1842 he married the daughter of a Danish painter Charlotte Jungstedt with whom he had five children. In 1860 they moved to the town of Dresden and the firm in Russia was headed by Fabergé’s partner Hiskias Pendin and his oldest son Peter Carl Fabergé. The latter became famous in particular thanks to gold Easter eggs which he made for the imperial family. About 50 pieces gold eggs were produced but fewer were preserved. The skilful craftsmanship, the materials used and the original opening hiding a surprise inside became a synonym for luxury and opulence.
