Product description

In the Czech Republic there are 26 municipalities. Havířov among them occupies the 11th place in terms of population, but it also includes one of the victories. It is the youngest newly built city in our country - the foudation of the village dates back to 1955 and this year, it has been 60 years since its inception. This important event is one of the reasons of the new issue of Havířov by the Czech Mint – half a kilo medal in sterling silver, which will be not only an adornment of the Statutory Cities Series, but it will also embellish every interesting numismatic collection.

The earliest mention of those urban areas on the territory of contemporary Havířov dates back to the late 13th and early 14th centuries. The beginnings of the city are related to the creation of mining settlements. The construction of Havířov emerged from the postwar development of the industry, when more residential towns were needed in the Moravian-Silesian Region  The strategic location on the borders of Šenov, Šumbark and Lower Bludovice and at the junction of Ostrava and Czech Cieszyn directly encouraged the construction, whichbegan in 1947. The name Havířov comes  from a public tender, where 2350 proposals were sent, among them Horníkov, Čurdov, Čestprácov or New Gottwaldov. The village is an important seat of machinery, energy, rubber and food industries, but it also offers a variety of architectural and artistic attractions.

One of the famous buildings, The Culture centre Radost, as a dominant feature in the form of successful relief on the obverse side of the silver medal. It is completed by a circular sector with an aerial view of the city, information about the weight and fineness, and the inscription HAVÍŘOV. The authorship of the obverse side of the medal is signed by Jakub Matouš, Aleš Hynek Vrkoslav and Jan Petr, DiS. The motif on the reverse side of the medal is a common topic of the series and carries a map with the names of all 26 statutory cities located in the forefront. Do not miss another advantageous opportunity and save your money into an attractive artistic masterpiece from The Czech Mint!
