Product description

The former church of St. Anne is a Prague's gothic building that decorates the Old Town since the 14th century and belonged to the donors of their time, for example, John of Luxembourg and Elisabeth of Bohemia. The charismatic building from the 18th century ceased to serve the spiritual purposes, which in 2004 decided to change The Dagmar and Vaclav Havel Foundation Vision 97, when they established a cultural and artistic center of the Prague Crossroad in the historical premises. Its heyday was the big dream of the former President Václav Havel.

The noble desire to build from former church a place for a meetings, concerts, exhibitions, lectures and meditation is also supported by the Czech Mint in cooperation with the leading Czech artists. A unique project was created, underpinned by Bořek Šípek, Jiří David, Kurt Gebauer, David Černý, Jaroslav Róna, Olbram Zoubek and Aleš Lamr. Each of these artists has prepared the original proposal of a commemorative medal, thus contributing to an extraordinary series of Art for Vaclav Havel. The proceeds from the sale of each mintage is dedicated to the Prague Crossroad!

The newest addition to the series is colored silver medal Iridescence, designed by Aleš Lamr, painter and sculptor, who has collaborated on many projects with Václav Havel - among others, participated in the creation of the murals in the presidential office during the period, when Havel held this position.

The obverse of the medal is dominated by a pop-art distinctively colored amoeba. Outside the main motif on the obverse is a symbol of the Prague Crossroad, which includes a heart - president Havel liked to connect it to his signature. Also the reverse of  this piece is quite characteristic for the author and hides a spiritual significance, besides the play of colors. These commemorative medals are connected by many features, such as a limited edition, pure silver, an exclusive wooden etui, interesting artistic motif and also help to a good cause!
