Product description

Seven important artists, seven exceptional medals - that is a series of silver commemorative mintages of the  Czech Mint titled Art for Václav Havel. The final piece of the puzzle becomes a remarkable work of David Černý, the controversial artist, with a non-conformist depiction of St. Wenceslas. The name of the medal "Always in a bad mood" is a paraphrase of celebrated words of Václav Havel - he used it during his speech in 1997 to describe the state of the society, but also aptly describes the present one.

The Pink tank, the mutant babies on Žižkov TV Tower, the stereotypical Entropa, … whether you admire or condemn them, every Czech knows at least one piece of this troublemaker. How many modern artists can claim that about themselves? The statue "Horse", which was originally located in the lower part of the Wenceslas Square, is now installed in the passage of the Lucerna Palace. This is a paraphrase of the famous equestrian statue of J. V. Myslbek - which takes the form of a dead horse tied at the hooves and hanging upside down, Saint Wenceslas sitting on its belly.

The decadent and provocative statue, which symbolizes, that although some things are upside down, we behave as if everything was okay, is the main motif of the obverse of the medal. David Černý and the medalist MgA. Martin Dašek elaborated together. St. Wenceslas is completed with a signature of Černý and a text STÁLE BLBÁ NÁLADA. /Always in a Bad Mood/

The reverse side is dedicated to the Prague Crossroad - a social center resident in the church of St. Anne, whose rescue was a great wish of Václav Havel. The Czech Mint helps to fulfill this dreami n cooperation with the Foundation of Dagmar and Václav Havel Vision 97, which receives the proceeds from the sale of these medals.

Once the limited issue of 600 silver medals sells out the first 200 numbered pieces, the rest of the issue will be put on sale.
