The Bouquet

A poem entitled The Water-Goblin became the motif of the second silver medal from the seven-part cycle inspired by Kytice (the Bouquet) written by Karel Jaromír Erben.

The fairy tales of our ancestors were not cheerful and nice. Their main purpose was to
teach and deter, and they were often cruel and tragic. Such is Erben's fairy-tale ballad. Its main character is a girl who is punished twice for her disobedience. For the first time, she disobeyed her mother, who had advised her not to go to the lake, so she became a wife of the water goblin against her will. For the second time, she did not fulfill the promise she had made to his husband. She visits her mother, despite her urging she refuses to return to the lake and the water goblin then kills in anger their child…

The medal maker
MgA. Jan Hásek became the author of the silver mintage. He got carried away by the depressing atmosphere of Erben's collection when creating the relief. The obverse side of the medal, like the story of the ballad, is divided into a world on the surface and under the surface. The upper part recalls a turning point, when a girl falls into the water while washing clothes. The lower part is dominated by silhouettes of a girl, a water goblin and their child. The reverse side, which is common to the whole series, presents a bouquet of flowers, which hides a human skull apart from various flowers.

The medal is set in a special packaging which includes
a complete poem. You can then save the collection of seven medals in the collector's box.
