Silver medal South Korea 2018 Olympic Games proof
The Winter Olympics do not take place in the Asian countries very often. The first ones took a place in Japan in Sapporo in 1972, the second in Nagano in 1998 and the third will be in Pchjongchang, South Korea in 2018. The Czech Mint has prepared a traditional silver medals to commemorate the biggest sports event.
Twenty-third winter olympic games will be attended by many Czech talents, experienced veterans and eager new faces who meet with the world elite in the state-of-the-art Gangneung Ice Arena. The building for 12,000 viewers was built directly for the Olympics and will host two sports, which are figure skating and skating on short track. While the world will see how one of the most disturbing regions will handle an event of this magnitude, the jerseys of the Czech representation will proudly proclaim that we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 2018. Everyone will also recall the 20th anniversary of the triumph of "golden boys", our hockey players from Nagano.
The author of the commemorative medal was pedagogue and medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák, who has rich sports experience. Three medals dedicated to Olympics, among others, came out from his studio. The first one reminded XXX. Summer Olympics in London in 2002, the second XXII. Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014 and the third XXXI. Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro 2016. Also the obverse side of this issue bears a perspective view of the Olympic stadium.
This mintage comes out in cooperation with the Czech Olympic Committee, and its reverse side is therefore devoted to the Czech lion, the inscription CZECH OLYMPIC COMMITTEE 2018, and the Olympic rings.
