Product description

670 years have passed in 2018 since the Charles University was found. The big coin of the Czech Mint embossed of one kilogram of pure silver belongs to the great school on this occasion.

Charles IV. was an enlightened ruler who was not called The father of Homeland in vain. He was well aware of the importance of the nation's education, and secured his subjects the first higher education in the Czech lands on April 7, 1348. One of the oldest European universities from Italy to the north and from Paris to the east soon gained international recognition and its history forms the history of our country. It was closely connected with Master Jan Hus and his reform movement, with the government of Rudolph II, who established Prague as a metropolis of education and also with the anti-Habsburg opposition that resulted in the Thirty Years' War, the Spring of Nations, Slavic emancipation and foundation of independent Czechoslovakia with the oppression of totalitarian regimes of 20th century.

The commemorative mintage which gives tribute to our most prestigious school was made by leading medal maker and teacher Mgr. Petr Horák. The reverse side of the medal was donated to the crowned semi-structure of Charles IV. The king holds in his hand the foundation charter of the university from which the seal hangs. A detailed depiction of the seal on which the Father of Fatherland kneels before Saint Wenceslas is then on the obverse side of the coin. On the obverse side there are the attributes of Niue Island, which is the issuer of the coin. The coins of the Czech Mint are based on its foreign license, bear the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II., the nominal value of 80 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2018. The composition of the coin is supplemented by heraldic animals, which are the eagle and the lion along with the Latin description of ANNO DCLXX. AB UNIVERSITATE CAROLINA FUNDATA (670th Anniversary of Charles University).

The majestic coin comes in a mere 200 pieces. It is stored in a luxurious wooden etui and has an exemplary certificate of authenticity.
