Twelve zodiacal signs on silver pendant.

Aquarius is the astrological sign in the Zodiac. Duration is from 21 January to 19 February, is an air sign ruled by the planet Uranus. Its lucky metal is lead, its plant is fern and its day Thursday.
One side of all pendants in the signs of zodiac series is the same – it shows a composition of specific features symbolising individual signs.
On the obverse side each sign is depicted individually, the name of the respective sign and its approximate dates are arranged in circumscription. A colour imitation glass gemstone corresponding to the sign’s colour is set in each pendant.

Unlimited edition.

On the obverse side of the silver medal Old-Town Astronomical Clock with the Aquarius zodiac sign there is an allegory of the month of January from the Calendar Plate of the Astronomical Clock of the Old Town of Prague. Its author is Josef Mánes, one of the greatest personalities of 19th century Czech art.

Josef Mánes (12 May 1820 – 9 December 1871) was a painter, illustrator and graphic artist. Experts in the history of fine arts define him as one of the major representatives of Czech romanticism. His landscapes are considered the best landscapes produced in our country.

January was depicted by Mánes as a celebration of the birth of a child - the New Year. In addition to allegories of the months of the year the Calendar Plate shows the signs of the Zodiac as they relate to the individual months. The airy Aquarius sign relates to January. Its place in the calendar is between 22 January and 20 February.

The silver commemorative medal is the first of the series of the Czech Mint drawing inspiration from the Calendar Plate of the Old Town Astronomical Clock by Josef Mánes. The author and academic sculptor Daniela Kartáková pays tribute to this greatest figure of Czech romanticism, who masterly transformed rural and agricultural themes to allegories of the twelve months. The series consists of a dozen medals, each devoted to one month.

The reverse side of all medals is the same, showing the Calendar Plate as a whole and the figure of its author.

The silver medals of this series are issued three times a year. Thus in four years you will possess the complete series of twelve medals with twelve allegories of months by Josef Mánes. The medals are issued for you by the Czech Mint, a long-term producer of Czech gold and silver commemorative medals.

In the Calendar Plate as well as on the commemorative medals each month is connected with one sign of the Zodiac. Thus the medal can also make a nice gift for somebody according to the period of the Zodiac sign he or she was born in.
