The Little Whirlwind 0.5g Gold Coin
Another addition to the collector's series of gold coins of the New Zealand Mint, which offers a cross-section of the film career of the most famous mouse named Mickey Mouse, was dedicated to the grotesque called Tornado.
The colorful grotesque was created in 1941, during the Second World War, when the people needed to laugh at least for a moment. The story relies heavily on action animation and is almost without words. The few sentences that Mickey says in the introduction were traditionally dubbed by Walt Disney himself. The story, in which Mickey tries to work in the garden in order to deserve the cake, however, his work is destroyed by wind swirl, introduces the new look of the titular mouse and his girlfriend Minnie. Changes in animation included slimmer bodies, bigger heads, hands and feet, and perspective ears. These character design changes, however, lasted only a year. While watching grotesque, you may notice one more new feature of Mickey Mouse – visible overshot teeth that only appeared in this single movie.
The reverse side of the gold coin is devoted to a film poster that has attracted viewers to the cinema. Mickey, who rakes the garden, carries the nasty tornado and spreads the leaves around him. The obverse side of the coin is then devoted to the attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue: the name and profile of Queen Elizabeth II., the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS 50 CENTS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2017. The relief of the coin that originates in Disney's official license was created by the design team of the New Zealand Mint.
A cute coin weighing one half of a gram is set in a collector´s card with a color illustration taken from the original film poster.
