200-crown silver coin Opening of Prague Music Academy standard

A commemorative silve coin put in circulation by the Czech National Bank (CNB) on 30 May 2011 marks the foundation of the oldest music school in Bohemia.

The artistic design of the 200-crown coin issued on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of lessons at the Prague Conservatory was created on the basis of a country-wide anonymous design contest declared by CNB. The coin is the first out of four two-hundred-crown coints struck in 2011. The winning design was created by Martin Dašek.

The coin is struck from silver with fineness of 0.925 in standard and proof quality differing in the surface finish and the edge. As opposed to standard quality where the edge of the coin is dented, proof coins have highly polished field and the relief is matted, while the edge is smooth. The diameter of the coin is 31 mm, it weighs 13 g and is 2.35 mm thick.

A composition of three musical instruments is featured on the obverse side: French horn, oboe and cello, which are taught at the Prague conservatory. The name of state: “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA“ (Czech Republic) is placed in the upper part while the mintmark of the Czech Mint is hidden below the abbreviation of the currency.

The reverse side of the 200-crown coin reveals a composition of another set of musical instruments – bassoon, oboe and contrabass (in outline). The mark of the author Martin Dašek is placed below the year “2011“.

Each coin is delivered with a beige catalogue card containing description of the coin and its 3D picture.

Limited edition of 7800 pieces.
