Product description

The Royal Mint regularly pays tribute to the symbols of the island's monarchy. Therefore, the famous Buckingham Palace cannot be missing on the commemorative coin.

In 1703, the Duke of Buckingham had a house built in Westminster, London. His son then sold the residence to King George III, who wanted to use it for private purposes. However, the heir to the throne, George IV, decided to have it converted into a more splendid residence. Thus was born Buckingham Palace, which has been the official residence of the British monarchs since 1837, when Queen Victoria took power. One of the last working royal palaces in the world, it is still a place where events of national importance are held, where heads of state are welcomed and where Britons gather in hours of mourning or rejoicing. The largest royal study in the world is synonymous with the island kingdom and is therefore a major tourist attraction. Few visitors to London miss the changing of the guard here. Getting an invitation to a garden party, audience or reception is a huge honour for a select few, but in select months the royal interiors can be viewed by ordinary people too. Chambers, halls, galleries and stables that are normally inaccessible are stunning and awe-inspiring...

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of artist Henry Gray, presents a faithfully rendered facade of Buckingham Palace framed by decorative ornaments. The royal standard proudly flies on the roof, announcing the presence of the monarch. The obverse side of the coin is then dedicated to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the portrait of King Charles III, the text CHARLES III D G REX F D (Charles III, by the grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith), the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP) and the year of issue 2024.

The base metal commemorative coin is placed in a special packaging that tells its story in words and pictures (in English).
