Product description
The Czech National Bank represents the most beautiful castle buildings in the Czech Republic on gold coins with a nominal value of 5,000 CZK. The third issue minted in an extraordinary quality proof belongs to the Moravian castle Bouzov.
The castle is a typical example of popular Central European medieval architecture during the romantic historicist period. It was founded at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries (the first documented owner of the castle was Mr. Búza from Búzov- inheriting the name of the village and the castle in Old Czech), however, it was not preserved in the original medieval form. At the end of the 19th century, it enchanted Archduke Eugene Habsburg, an admirer of chivalry, and underwent a demanding romantic rebuild which lasted fifteen years and claimed twenty million gold coins. The Neo-Gothic castle chapel became the most valuable part of the castle. The original Gothic Hall which was transformed into an armory was well preserved. Due to its importance, Bouzov was registered on the list of national cultural monuments in 1999. It is one of the most visited Czech landmarks and popular locations for filmmakers.
MgA. Josef Oplištil won the Czech National Bank art competition “for the high quality rendering of Bouzov Castle, the harmony of both sides and the fine purity of the design". While he pictured the castle from bird's eye view together with the walls and the bridge on the reverse side, the obverse side was dedicated to the detail of a castle wall with an arcade. Flags with heraldic animals of the Czech Republic are hung under the arches.
Gold coins from the CNB series can be stored in a wooden collector's etui decorated with thematic graphics - you can find it on offer at the Czech Mint.
