Product description
The Czech National Bank's five-year cycle dedicated to castles is being closed. The last gold coin with a nominal value of 5,000 CZK, which is stamped in top quality proof, is dedicated to Buchlov.
The Buchlov Royal Castle, one of the oldest in the Czech Republic, stands on the hill of the same name and it is famous as the protector of the eastern border of the Lands of the Czech Crown - not only from enemies from the outside, but also from the Moravian Slovak landscape. The castle had the power to judge and punish forest poaching or illegal fishing, and local punishments were extremely severe compared to the rest of the kingdom. Later, the list of powers expanded to punish all crimes committed in the Buchlov estate - robbery, murder, fornication and witchcraft.
Medal maker MgA. Josef Oplištil - the winner of the Czech National Bank's art competition – dedicated both sides of the coin to a view on the castle, which was built as Romanesque-Gothic, but underwent Renaissance and Baroque alterations. The obverse of the coin depicts the silhouette of a building in which the heraldic animals of the Czech Republic are incorporated. On the reverse side there is a view on the castle from the same angle, but realistic with a wealth of architectural details.
The Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou is the exclusive supplier of all Czech coins - commemorative and circulating.
