Product description

An opportunity to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the government of Franz Joseph I in 1898 in the Austria - Hungary was missed by few. Now , 120 years later, we remind this celebration with the gold minicoin of the Czech Mint stored in the replica of the postcard.

The print that celebrated the half-century of the Habsburg emperor on the throne was delivered by Carl Stellzig´s, who was the postmaster in Doubice in Bohemia. Perfectly elaborated colorful lithography presents the attributes of the imperial government. Two portrait medallions that capture the emperor on the throne and are embedded at the jubilee in the official emblem of the monarchy and accompanied by the figural label of the annual years 1848-1898, explaining the text and the plant motif. Another element of the composition is the view of the Hofburg complex in Vienna, the Habsburgs winter residence. The postcard was used as a universal greeting at the end of the 19th century. It was possible to manually fill any place right after a pre-printed German inscription "Gruss aus" (greetings from). The particular specimen that served as a template for the coin packaging was sent from Serbian Kamenice on May 21, 1899 and the next day was delivered to Prague. Although the crown currency had already been used, it was still possible to use a mark with the value of 2 kreuzers.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the young medalmaker David Kružliak, is dedicated to the characteristic portrait of Franz Joseph I with the iconic beard from the turn of the century. The obverse side belongs to the necessary attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to coin the commemorative coins. These are the profile and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2018, together with the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD).

The original issue is an available collector's piece that will delight numismatics, philocartics, and supporters of the enlightened monarch.
