Product description

The Czech Mint represents the third issue of a half-gram gold coin stored in a replica of a lithographic postcard. It is dedicated to the great city of Brno and its Old Town Hall, which is filled with legends.

The Brno postcard captures the overall view of the Moravian metropolis of the late 19th century, dominated by Špilberk Castle. It also offers several scenes of other landmarks: today's Mahen Theater, the main railway station, the German House, and one of the non-existing curiosities - a meteorological facility known as Větrníček na Kolišti. The names of all these buildings are in German, together with the decorative inscription "Gruss aus Brünn". The German majority dominated the city when "Greetings from Brno" originated. The postcard was published by Carl Schwager in Dresden in 1896. The particular copy which became a draft of the coin was sent from Brno in the same year and delivered to Vienna the following day. Moreover, it was franked with a two-penny mark, even though the crown currency had already been paid at the time.

Talented young medal maker David Kružliak became the author of the gold medal. On the reverse side there is a perspective view of Brno's Old Town Hall, dominated by a Gothic portal with five filaments, one of which is twisted. The obverse side of the coin then belongs to the attributes of the island of Niue, which allows the Czech Mint to mint its own commemorative coins. They are the name and portrait of the emperor Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2017, and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD).

The "Coin Letter" is not only an original and accessible collector's piece but also a valuable gift or regional present.
