Product description

Gold coins of the Czech Mint with the weight of two troy ounces traditionally introduce historical pairs. The series of royal brothers Wenceslas IV. and Sigismund of Luxembourg was issued in 2019.

The stories of brothers are old as mankind itself. The history of the Czech lands is dominated by the relationship of the sons of Charles IV. Older Wenceslas loved literature, art, esotericism and hunting. He felt to be a Czech king and he rarely traveled to Germany. He completed many important buildings during his father's reign, and was inspired by Master Jan Hus's revolutionary ideas. On the other hand, he was involved in the martyrdom of John of Nepomuk, he liked alcohol, and therefore deposed from the Roman throne as a "useless and lazy man, unsuitable for the Roman Empire". The younger Sigismund was educated, spoke nine languages, and inherited the talent of an european ruler from his father. He was called a "fox" in the Czech lands. He was perceived as a despot that tended towards Hungary and the Empire, he caused the death of Jan Hus and sent several crusades against the Hussites. However, the members of the Constitutional Council called Sigismund "King of Solomon". His wise decisions led to the elimination of the rule of the three popes and fought against heretics and expanding Turks. Obviously, both brothers were quite different, and it is no wonder that there were frequent conflicts between them. The monarchs, who should had followed the legacy of Charles IV, eventually lost him. The fault was the almost insurmountable legacy of the Father of Homeland, but also the economic crisis, the papal schism and the beginnings of the Christian Reformation…

The two-ounce coin represents the first cooperation between the Czech Mint and Mgr. Art. Miroslav Hric, ArtD. The expert medal maker devoted the reverse side to the crowned busts of both brothers, who are staring at the royal throne. Since the coin is being issued with the foreign license of the island of Niue, it bears the necessary attributes of this issuer, which means the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 100 DOLLARS and the year of the issue 2019 complemented with a decorative Gothic motif.

Two brothers, two ounces of gold and only 200 coins!
