Following Klement Gottwald and Antonín Zápotocký, this series of gold ducats of Czech Mint Czechoslovak presidents represents the third communist head of our state - Antonín Novotný.
Although his government was characterized by bureaucracy and unfulfilled promises, particularly in the economic area, in May 1960 Antonín Novotný declared, that under his leadership the country has already achieved socialism, which led to many changes. This was enshrined in the new constitution and adapted to the name of the state, which became the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic - ČSSR. There was also change in the national emblem - the armorial shield was inconsistent with the heraldic conventions and was replaced by the Hussite shield, the Czech lion has lost his crown, which was replaced by a five-pointed star, and the symbol of Slovak state was replaced by Krivan with a blazing bonfire.
These changes are also incorporated into the gold ducat. The reverse side is dominated by a modified national emblem. "Across the minting area is the outline of the territory of the Czechoslovak Republic, bounded so tightly by walls, symbolizing a well guarded borders both inside and outside. The circumbendibus consists of text PRESIDENT OF THE CZECHOSLOVAK SOCIALIST REPUBLIC and the years of the presidential term of 1957 and 1968 " says the author of the artistic design an academic sculptor Jiří Dostál. The obverse side of the ducat bears a portrait of the sixth president of Czechoslovakia, who was allegedly at the UNGA described as the most beautiful politician of the planet and was nicknamed „schöne Tony“, however already with a traces of aging and fatigue.
