Product description

A nine-part series of gold ducats Czechoslovak presidents represents Gustav Husak, the last communist head of our country.

Gustav Husak was the only Slovak president during the entire period of a common state of Czechs and Slovaks. He remained in this position for 14 years, which is the longest time after T.G. Masaryk. Even more paradoxical is that he ruled a country against whose existence he had fought since his youth, and he even tried to break it up in the 1940 when he sought joining Slovakia to the Soviet Union. However, this was not the only contrast in his life. He was raised in the Catholic faith, but participated in the persecution of the Church. He resolutely pursued Moscow's Communist policy, but  entered the USSR in the Nazi services for the first time. He had been imprisoned by his comrades for 10 years and later got to the party heights. He was considered a man of the Prague Spring, but eventually became an instigator of normalization regime...

"The obverse side is dominated by a portrait of Gustav Husak, expressing his determination to comply with Moscow's pressure after the invasion of August 21, 1968. This pressure is  expressed by a five-pointed star stuck in the word NORMALIZATION on the left shoulder of the president. The tip of the star is hidden behind the letter "A" and the letters loosely outside the baseline symbolize the beginning of the collapse of the communist system. On the opposite side, the inscription contains the name of GUSTAV HUSAK with the block of births and deaths of 1913-1991, "explains expert sculptor Jiri Dostal, the author of the ducat . The reverse side of the medal then belongs to the state emblem and territory of Czechoslovakia, a five-pointed star, togethe with an inscription PRESIDENT OF THE CZECHOSLOVAK SOCIALIST REPUBLIC and the presidential years 1975-1989.

Gustav Husak's ascents, falls and life paradoxes are described by epic packaging of gold ducat in the form of a book containing the essay of the leading historian PhDr. Petr Koura, Ph.D., whose specialty is our modern history. The complete presidential collection, which will uniquely bring you closer to the troubled past of our state, can be stored in a practical collector´s box.
