When the Czech Mint was beginning the series of gold ducats dedicated to Czechoslovak presidents in May 2014, it realized how controversial this topic may be for many people. However, interest in the first issue exceeded all expectations and included this collection in extremely popular among collectors. After T.G. Masaryk, E. Beneš and E. Hácha, the Klement Gottwald ducat made of pure gold have finally seen the light of day. The fourth mintage with an unquestionable artistic and investment value is dedicated to the first working-class president.

Klement Gottwald, illegitimate son of a peasant woman, was already during his apprenticeship actively involved in the activities of the Social Democratic Youth. During the 20s of the last century he formed a successful opposition against the leadership of the Communist Party in those days and during the Fifth Congress of the Communist Party in February 1929, he was elected its Secretary-General. In December of the same year, during the speech in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Assembly he explicitly declared what kind of regime his party wanted to establish: "We go to Moscow to learn from the Russian Bolsheviks how to wring your neck. And you know that the Russian Bolsheviks are masters in it ... You will laugh on the other side of your face!" He was elected president of Czechoslovakia in June 1948 and until his death in 1953, his vision of the Democratic People's Republic was steadfastly implemented.

History, such as it is, unfortunately cannot be rewritten. However, it may serve to advice us and help us to avoid repeating the same mistakes. Golden ducat dedicated to Klement Gottwald therefore serves not only as an attractive way to store financial reserves, but also as a reminder of the joyless era of our modern history. The Czech Mint with confidence entrusted realization of this issue, as well as the mintage of the other series to the academic sculptor Jiří Dostál. Experienced artist did not betray its trust, and presented another unique gem in the form of medal.  The obverse side features the portrait of Klement Gottwald, along with inscriptions “KLEMENT GOTTWALD, NASTOLENÍ KOMUNISTICKÉHO REŽIMU“ (“KLEMENT GOTTWALD, ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COMMUNIST REGIME”) and the years 1896-1953. The reverse side is formed by the composition of the map of Czechoslovakia, which is surrounded  by walls, contemporary national symbol and the five-pointed star, whose one arm points at the east. The motiv is completed by the text “PREZIDENT ČESKOSLOVENSKÉ REPUBLIKY“ (“PRESIDENT OF THE CZECHOSLOVAK REPUBLIC“) and the years 1948-1953. A colourful blister is also a part of the ducat and it includes an expert historical treatise and numerous photographs. The mintage is limited to 500 pieces, do not cheat your collection out of new valuable piece!
