The Czech Mint launched one of its most successful long-term series in 2014. Its task was to present the history of Czechoslovakia in an original way, which means through the fate of the nine men who were at its head. The last issue of the Czechoslovak presidents cycle is published in 2018 when we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia and the 25th anniversary of the Czech Republic. The golden ducat was dedicated to Václav Havel.

After Václav Havel was elected the 9th President of Czechoslovakia on December 29, 1989, a man who was not connected with the Communist party stood at Prague Castle after long 41 years. He was a man who gained international recognition first as the author of theater plays, and then as a key representative of the dissident movement, came to his office. Vaclav Havel held this office for the shortest time of all Czechoslovak presidents, which means just two and a half years, because he resigned from his mandate in response to the beginning of the state's disintegration in July 1992. Six months later, however, he was again elected head of state and this time the newly established Czech Republic, which he headed for the next decade. Overall, he spent less than 13 years at the Prague Castle, and became our third longest-running president after T.G. Masaryk and Gustav Husák. He even equaled the founder of Czechoslovakia in the number of successful presidential elections. He was elected four times in the presidential office as Masaryk.

"The composition of the obverse side is dominated by the portrait of Václav Havel from the time of his early presidential period after the Velvet Revolution. The inscription includes the name VÁCLAV HAVEL with the highlighted starting letters. »V« symbolizes the „victorious vee“ that Václav Havel used in gesture, and »H« with the dates of birth and death reminds the window - into the world or barred. The text contains the SYMBOL OF DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM, " explains academic sculptor Jiří Dostál, the author of the ducat. The reverse side belongs to the territory and state emblem of the republic, which gradually becomes a democratic Czechoslovakia from the communist Czechoslovakia.
