One of the earliest documented personalities of Slovak history is the prince Pribina from Nitra. A large gold coin of the Czech Mint, whose weight is derived from the historical forty ducats, pays tribute to the great man.

In the first half of the 9th century AD, the Principality of Nitra was established in the territory of today's western Slovakia, whose people united against the Avar tribes. Nitra was the capital city, which gave its name to the whole state formation, and the first Nitra prince was a man named Pribina. Although he was a pagan at the time, he built a sanctuary in Nitra, which was the very first Christian church in the territory inhabited by Western and Eastern Slavs. He probably did this to please his Bavarian wife or to please Frankish merchants. Pribina was not only threatened by nomads from the east - he also expected an attack from his Slavic neighbours to the west. This assumption was confirmed when in 833 the Moravian grandee Mojmir invaded Nitra region and defeated Pribina. The Nitran prince was exiled and his country became part of the Great Moravian Empire. Since then on Pribina sought a new home - first he went to the Frankish East Marche, where he was baptised, then to Bulgaria and Croatia. Eventually he became the first prince of the Principality of Blaten. He built the fortress of Blatnohrad in today´s western Hungary, where, as in Nitra, he built the largest church n Eastern and Central Europe. However, he did not find peace here. The reverse side of the coin, designed by medal maker Mária Filová, DiS., bears a fictitious portrait of the Nitra prince supplemented with a decorative inscription PRIBINA. The obverse side presents an example of the art of the ancient Slavs in the form of archaeological findings from the Nitra region. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its national emblem, the nominal value of 250 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.

The mintage of the coin is only 99 pieces.
