Product description

We need to face a lot of tears, sweat and renunciation before we finally defeat the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, it is time to thank all those involved in the fight against the insidious disease. Therefore, the Czech Mint in cooperation with the Czech Red Cross prepared a special project - a gold ducat with an exceptional story.

Florence Nightingale
awaited a comfortable life. However, she exchanged the role of an English noblewoman for the ungrateful profession of a nurse and a luxury residence for the blood and dirt of the Crimean War. When she arrived in Istanbul in 1854, 42% of the wounded soldiers died in military hospitals, but thanks to the pioneering methods she introduced, this alarming number was reduced to a mere 2%. Clean bed linen, plenty of light and fresh air, healthy food and fun - these and many other little things have saved the lives of thousands of people. The unselfish nurse gained the recognition of Queen Victoria, the Turkish Sultan and Henri Dunant, whom she inspired to found the Red Cross, and her procedures quickly spread to hospitals around the world. It is only convenient that we can pay tribute to a woman who took care of people in need day and night in the year when the coronavirus rampage hit the world. The medal acknowledges everyone - professionals and volunteers - who make the world a better place even 200 years after Florence Nightingale's birth.

The reverse side of the ducat, which was processed by the medal maker
MgA. Martin Dašek, presents a portrait of Florence Nightingale inspired by period photography, her name and the life years 1820–1910. The symbol of the Red Cross is placed in the background. The obverse side is then completely filled with the words THANK YOU in a number of world languages.

We donate 500 CZK
from the price of each sold gold medal to the Czech Red Cross, which is the patron of the issue. If you buy a medal, you will contribute to a good cause and at the same time you will enrich your collection with an extraordinary piece. If you want to thank someone who helped you in difficult times, then you can use the medal as a gift – for this purpose, there is a space in the certificate of authenticity where the dedication can be written…
