Gold quarter-ounce coin Czech tennis legends - Jaroslav Drobný proof
There are a number of athletes who are globally recognized as universally gifted. Few of them, however, can be compared with Jaroslav Drobný. The gold coin of the Czech Mint from the cycle Czech Tennis Legends belongs to the only person in history who won the World Championship and the Wimbledon Tournament.
Jaroslav Drobný won Olympic silver and world champion title on ice. Although he was short-sighted and could not wear glasses in hockey, he was a born shooter. He contributed an incredible 14 goals to our historically first ice hockey gold. At the tennis courts he played elegantly with great punches, rotated service, forehand and backhand shorts. He became a multiple champion of the republic and successfully represented Czechoslovakia in the Davis Cup. Although his surroundings tried to persuade him to choose only one sport, Jaroslav skillfully lashed between tennis and hockey. Eventually, however, he decided to go to tennis and emigrated in 1949. The Communist regime did not want "bourgeois sport" and Jaroslav was afraid of his future. An Egyptian king granted him new citizenship, and Jaroslav rewarded him by winning the Wimbledon singles as Egyptian in 1954. Experts then ranked him as the world's first tennis player. Jaroslav Drobný wished to play with four passports - Czechoslovak (1938, 46-49), Protectorate (1939), Egyptian (1950-59) and British (1960).
The entire tennis series comes from the studio of medalmaker MgA Martin Dašek. On the reverse side of the coin there is the winning moment of Jaroslav Drobný, who proudly wins the Wimbledon Cup surrounded by English inscription "CZECH TENNIS LEGEND JAROSLAV DROBNY" and a selection of his greatest tennis successes. The coins of the Czech Mint are based on the license of a foreign publisher, the state of Samoa, and their obverse side therefore carries its necessary attributes, which are the national emblem, the portrait and the name of the emperor Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (WST), together with the year of the issue 2018 and inscription "WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONS".
Each of only 200 gold coins includes a Czech-English certificate of authenticity describing the sporting career of Jaroslav Drobný. You can store the complete five commemorative coins of our tennis legends in a collector's etui.
