Product description

The collector´s series of the Czech Mint "Legends of Czech Hockey" reminds a defender who could compete with few world players in the 60s and 70s. The gold coin is dedicated to Jan Suchý.

The most productive and probably the best defender in the history of our ice hockey played literally with the deployment of life. He was the first Czechoslovak hockey player to sacrifice his opponent's shots with his own body. At the same time he loved the modern concept of the role of the defender and he stepped into the offensive from the defensive activity, where he fought the counterattacks. He managed to win the title of the King of the League shooters (he is the only Czech defender to this day) and hattrick in just 47 seconds. He brought the silver from the Grenoble Olympic Games in 1968. He won silver also at the World Championships in 1965, 66, 71 and 74, and in 1969 and 70 he took bronze. The championship of 1969 was especially important for Czechoslovakia because our hockey players managed to defeat the Soviets shortly after the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops. That was the goal of Jan Suchý, who helped us with the famous sport and moral triumph.

The author of the coin is an expert medal maker and teacher Mgr. Petr Horák. Its reverse side is dedicated to faithful portrait to the defender surrounded by the inscription JAN SUCHÝ - MEMBER OF HALL OF FAME IIHF AND CZECH HOCKEY - GRENOBLE 1968. The last detail of the reverse side is the number 17. The coins of the Czech Mint are issued in the license of a foreign publisher, which is the state of Samoa, and therefore the obverse side bears the following attributes, which are the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the national emblem, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (WST) and the year of the issue 2018.

This coin comes in a mere 200 pieces. You can save it in a special collector's etui in the form of a puck along with other hockey mintages.
