Product description
Another legend of British popular music presented on commemorative coins from The Royal Mint's collector's series is John Lennon.
John Lennon, who became famous as the founder of The Beatles, influenced the development of rock music. Fans loved him as a 'bad beetle', but while his lyrics could be rebellious and full of hard-hitting wit, they were also deeply personal. The proof is in the sad song All You Need Is Love, which became one of the anthems of the 1960s. Beyond that, Lennon established himself as a versatile artistic personality - he also shone as a writer, artist and actor. The Beatles' success was unprecedented, but the self-effacing philosopher and ironist with a disrespect for formality became increasingly disgusted with the media hype, and the most famous band of all time broke up. Lennon embarked on a solo career. He pushed the boundaries of genres far beyond what was the norm. He wasn't afraid of psychedelia and experimentation. He linked his professional and personal life to the avant-garde artist Yoko Ono. Together they were not only a musical duo - they were also peace activists, bohemians, anarchists, dreamers and pacifist intellectuals who preached world peace and love. It was a cruel irony of fate when John Lennon died a violent death...
The reverse side of the coin, processed by artist Henry Gray, was inspired by a famous New York photograph of John Lennon by photographer Bob Gruen. Of course, the singer is not missing his iconic glasses. Alongside the name JOHN LENNON, the reverse relief also features the title of the song IMAGINE, one of the greatest musical compositions of all time. The obverse side of the coin then belongs to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP), the portrait of King Charles III, the text CHARLES III D G REX F D (Charles III, by the grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith) and the year of issue 2025.
The coin comes with a special packaging full of photographs and interesting facts (in English).
